If you follow this blog at all you know that I often blog on my son...I can't' help it, I'm really proud of him and at the same time I'm really concern for him. He is a Recon Scout with the 82nd Airborne. I do my best to follow his battalions movement in Paktika, Afghanistan. In the last two or three days they conducted a daring rescue of an Afgan woman and a young girl by the Taliban, they killed 60 insugrents on the border after they were attached by them. I don't know if my son was involved in any of the specifics...I will only know after I talk with him whenever that might be...At the same time I know that he plays a very important role. As a F-13 (forward observer) he is the eyes and ears of the army. His job is to move out ahead of the troops with a small group of scouts and gather and check out itelleligence. They pre-mark targets, develop tactical plans, assess assests, call in fire, and engage the enemy. Sounds like your nomal 9 to 5 desk job. Last time I talked with him I asked him if he got Sunday off...he just laughed.
Anyway you may be wondering what being a recon scout has to do with being a church planter. I think everything. We are the recon scouts of the church world. Without this unique breed of pastors who dare to move out beyond the security of our spiritual fortresses and actually engage the enemy the church would be in big trouble. We are in a war and like any war their are causalties. Its the cost of engaging the enemy. At the same time we are in this together...it is about His kingdom and one falls we all falls. If it wasn't for you there would be no intell and no advancement.
Once years ago I left the security of a great job and a great reputation as a church planter strategist to go plant a new kind of church. I will never forget the words of Bob as we talked, "What if you fail?" My response, "If I fail to try I have already failed." Bob looked at me and nodded his head as he mouthed the words, "Okay!"...Thanks Bob for understanding!
Go for it guys...we need you to take great risk for His Kingdom....
So glad you took that risk!
